Dental Health

Maintaining good dental health in our patients has several important benefits:

  • bad breath is reduced
  • we can reduce potential pain and discomfort caused by red, inflamed gums, periodontal disease and cavities in the teeth
  • and it reduces damage to internal organs that can happen when bacteria from chronically infected gums enter the bloodstream during chewing.

To achieve good dental health we recommend the following:

  • At six months of age (when they get their adult teeth) start them on the dental food Hills T/D™ (Tartar Diet). This will help prevent the buildup of plaque and tartar on the teeth and can be fed as a primary diet or mixed in with another food of your choice
  • Brushing your cat's teeth (this is ideal). We are happy to give a demonstration on your kitty if you think you would like to try.
